Congratulations to our CEO, Helen Rowland, who completed her first, and only she says, marathon. After completing previous 10k and half marathons, Helen decided to go for the big one – the Manchester marathon on Sunday 7th April 2019 in aid of Diabetes UK.

In August 2014, Helen’s youngest son, Thomas, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 8 years old.  The care both Thomas and the family continue to receive from Diabetes UK has been a huge support.

Diabetes UK fund research into systems to make life with Type 1 Diabetes as straightforward as possible and, as a result, Thomas, now age 13, benefits from a continuous blood glucose scanner and an insulin pump.

Whilst training for this marathon, Helen said she had a lot of time to think and reflect on life and is very grateful to Diabetes UK for supporting Thomas, and all other people with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, to live life as healthily and as actively as possible.

Knowing that all funds raised will help Diabetes UK support even more people and their families, gave Helen the determination to complete this ultimate challenge!

At the last count, Helen had raised £2,569.82 through JustGiving.  Well done Helen, we are all so very proud of you!
